A Flowering Country is a graphic novel in 5 parts, co-authored by Indonesia’s award-winning writer and former political prisoner, Putu Oka Sukanta, together with Galuh Wandita, illustrated by Ignatius Ade. The graphic novel tells the story of two pairs of twins: Verida (Truth), Adila (Justice), Nilay (Healer), and Anamrin (Never Again.) Adopted by an elderly couple, they discover that their lineage is intertwined with the conflict, and their coming of age is connected to the liberation of their country.
Inspired by the continuing conflict in Myanmar, while echoing many other country contexts in Southeast Asia, the graphic novel is a popular retelling of transitional justice.
