In August 2013, a Committee from the Aceh parliament responsible for drafting a law establishing a truth and reconciliation commission (TRC) in Aceh requested AJAR to organize a three-day training and workshop at the AJAR Learning Centre. During the workshop, international experts provided details of their experience working directly in TRC’s in Africa, Latin America and Asia, with case studies focused on Timor Leste, South Africa, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Kenya, Peru, Chile, Guatemala, Thailand, the Solomon Islands and Morocco. The draft local law to establish a local truth commission was passed by the Aceh parliament at the end of 2013. However, the draft law has yet been approved by the Indonesian central government.
